In 1916, a small rising occurred at Enniscorthy on cue with that at Dublin. On Thursday, 27 April 1916, Enniscorthy town was taken over by about 600 armed patriots, almost without opposition in a surprise attack. They were led by Robert Brennan. The rebels consisted primarily of Irish Volunteers, supplemented by members of Fianna Éireann and Cumann na mBan.

The next day, 30 April 1916, the British escorted two patriots, Seamus Doyle and Seán R. Etchingham, to Dublin to consult Pearse in Arbor Hill Prison. The order to surrender was obtained. On Monday, 1 May 1916, the Enniscorthy patriots surrendered unconditionally. There had been no fatalities and relatively little damage to property.
Some of the leaders, including Robert Brennan, were sentenced to death, but all had their sentences commuted. Furlong and Hayes state that “270 were arrested, of whom 150 were interned at Frongoch in north Wales”.
Frongoch internment camp was formerly a German prisoner-of-war camp. It was cleared of German prisoners to accommodate the Irish patriots involved in the Easter Rising, the first of whom arrived there 9 June 1916. The camp was located at Frongoch, three miles from the town of Bala in Merionethshire, North Wales.
Michael O’Hanahan of New Ross, a member of Sinn Féin, of the IRB and of the Irish Volunteers, who played a prominent role in the Easter Rising at Jacob’s Biscuit Factory, Dublin, was executed 4 May 1916 at Dublin.

In addition to malnutrition and physical abuse, malaria, cholera, dysentery starvation and tropical ulcers were common contributing factors in the death of workers on the Burma Railway.
Weight loss among Allied officers who worked on construction was, on average, 9–14 kg (20–30 lb) less than that of enlisted personnel.
The construction of the Burma Railway is counted as a war crime committed by Japan in Asia.
At the end of World War II, 111 Japanese military officials were tried for war crimes for their brutality during the construction of the railway. Thirty-two of them were sentenced to death.
Hiroshi Abe, a first lieutenant who supervised construction of the railway at Sonkrai where 1,400 British prisoners out of 1,600 died of cholera and other diseases in three months, was sentenced to death, later commuted to 15 years in prison, as a B/C class war criminal.

Ross Ferris, a DRUG FUELLED VIOLENTTARTAN ARMY HOOLIGAN was arrested on the night of the 18th of June after Scotland’s 0-0 Victory over England for which they won the

The alarm was raised after the Scotland v England game when things were seen being thrown out of a window at the swanky Corus Hotel in Lancaster Gate, W2.
Tartan Army footsoldier Ross Ferris, plunged from the fourth floor of the swanky Corus hotel in the West End of London
Officers from Met Police established a cordon outside the hotel after the alleged incident
Two officers were also hurt, and a taser was discharged during the incident, before Ferris was rushed to the major trauma unit at St Mary’s hospital in West London with non-life-threatening injuries.
After Cops first tended to him with first aid kits as paramedics raced to the scene. It was understood Ross Ferris escaped with just hand injuries
After doing a weekender in the custody of the Met Police, The 27-year-old, Tartan Army Footsoldier was charged with five charges including possession of a Class-A drug, assault by beating and attacking a police officer and assault occasioning ABH.
He was also charged with causing criminal damage worth under £5,000 during the incident.
Ferris, who is originally from Hopeman in Erskine but now lives in Fife after moving out of his family home, was ordered to reappear at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, July 19 and released on conditional bail in the meantime.
A spokeswoman for the Met Police confirmed at the time of the Tartan Army fan’s arrest.
She said:
“Ross Ferris, 27 (21.12.93), of Hill Street in Fife, Scotland, was charged on Sunday, 20 June.
“He was bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 19 July.
“This follows an incident at a hotel in Lancaster Gate, W2 on Friday, 18 June.”
When July 19th came and went, it appears that the Tartan Army fan must’ve pleaded not guilty because it is only now in August that we now find he admitted two counts of assault on an emergency worker at Southwark Crown Court in London yesterday and is now awaiting sentencing.
Ferris is due to return for sentencing on September 27 and is still on bail.

On November 23rd, 2019 in Barholm Drive, Erskine a NAKED cocaine-fuelled Ross Ferris the sank his teeth into PC Alison Laughlin arm causing severe bleeding,
Officer Alison Laughlan was left with a traumatizing three-week wait for blood-borne infections after Ross Ferris savagely attacked her during a bout of cocaine-induced paranoia
Ferris had been indulging in a binge of the Class-A drug when he flipped out at his parents’ home in Erskine.
Paisley Sheriff Court heard when officers attended at the address at Hopeman, in the town, he emerged at the door wearing only a towel, which fell off when he legged down the street with cops in hot pursuit.
In court, it was explained that
“He ran off and the police pursued him. He ran away from the officers. “He was shouting at them.
“Eventually police officers caught up and managed to detain him.”
Ferris struggled and lashed out at cops as they tried to handcuff him and place him under arrest.
PC Laughlan attempted to use her mace spray and used her baton on the back of his legs, when he attacked her.
“He lashed out at her causing the baton to fall to the ground. He lunged forward biting her on the left forearm with significant force. He maintained pressure on her arm.”
Reinforcements were called to help tackle Ferris.
She eventually managed to wrench her arm free from his jaws, when he attempted to bite another cop.
Ferris, who was cuffed and placed in a cell van began shouting: “Fuck off you cunts” at police and claimed he hadn’t been doing anything wrong.
Ferris then attempted to bite a third police officer while in custody at Greenock Police Sation.
Ferris’ attack punctured PC Laughlan’s skin, leaving his teeth marks, causing bleeding and severe bruising.
Her wound was cleaned at hospital. She was given a tetanus jab, a hepatitis vaccine, and a 21-day course of antibiotics following the attack.
In court, Ross Ferris pleaded guilty to charges of assault to injury against PC Laughlan by biting her and assaulting two other officers, Frazer Cambridge and James Gunn, by attempting to bite them too.
He also admitted a charge of public disorder in which he shouted and made threats against police.
His defence agent said:
“Against his better judgement he had consumed a quantity of cocaine and returned to his parents’ house.
“While there, he was overtaken by feelings of paranoia, which led to the involvement of police.
“He attended the front door wearing a towel, officers came to the house and gave chase. The towel fell from his waist when he was out in the street.
The lawyer added electrical engineering supervisor Ferris, now staying at a new address in Fife, believed the officers “were not the real police” and reacted badly as a result of the drugs.
“Assaulting police officers in the execution of their duty is a very serious offence which could easily result in a custodial sentence.”
However, he spared him jail by handing him 300 hours of unpaid work, the maximum amount, to be completed within 12 months, as an alternative to custody.
He also warned Ferris any failure to complete the order and he will be jailed for one year.
